Kaylee McHugh - South African Artist
I am a portrait artist based in Johannesburg, specialising in pencil drawings of babies and children. Commissioning a portrait from me is very easy as I can turn the quick photo you took on your phone into a work of art. ​I am also an experienced oil painter and have exhibited my work at various shows in London, UK. Pencil Portraits
My portrait drawings are understated and clean with a high-contrast that brings out the eyes and therefore, mood of the subject. I use a soft and delicate hand when drawing children and babies. I work from a single photo on my phone.
Scribble Art
Surprisingly, a simple ballpoint pen has become my favourite tool! This is my most 'free' form of art where I squint my eyes and just let the pen roll over the page. The 'scribble' effect offers something contemporary yet simple - you'll find it really easy to find a spot for these artworks in your home.
Paintings
I mostly work in oils and enjoy the 'alla prima' method where I can get an artwork done within 4 hours. I work quickly and intuitively and try to capture the essence of the subject with as few brushstrokes as possible. These are my most imaginative artworks where I rarely use a reference.
